The three-story brick manor house was built in 1820 in the late Georgian/Federal style. Its 19th century ambience remains even after 20th century additions and interior renovations. The land was part of the original 1730 Carter family land grant. The last private owner, John Kluge, gave the farm to the University of Virginia Foundation in 2001. Extraordinary grounds feature formal and cutting gardens renovated by Annette Hoyt Flanders in the 1930’s. The large Japanese Garden will be open unless it is raining. Morven is listed on the National Register of Historic Places and the Virginia Landmarks Register.  Please note: the house is accessible to wheelchair users, but the gardens are not. Garden terrain is uneven and paths can be slippery.
