Everyone should have to opportunity to own the place they live -- for security and resilience, and to build wealth. But we don't all fit into the conventional home-ownership models. Some of us want to "live in community" while building equity. Others can’t or don’t choose to share a home with family. And as renters, we are at constant risk of displacement and can't build equity.
We need to find creative ways to deal with the real-world limitations of home ownership and finance.
Come to this session to learn more about cooperative ownership and financing models people are using in the Charlottesville area and throughout the U.S. Connect with others who are interested in finding a cooperative housing model that works for them and supporting each other in navigating the process. This one-hour session will start with a facilitated discussion on the various models, with tools and resources to move from idea to physical reality, then we will break into groups to continue discussion and research on the models that people are most interested in.
