The INDIE short FILM SERIES returns for its 8th installment on Saturday, September 24, 2022 - 7:30pm at the Vinegar Hill Theatre in Charlottesville, Virginia. This installment of the Series is dedicated to celebrating international and domestic women filmmakers. The event will feature up to 8 short films made by women, followed by a filmmaker's panel discussion with selected women filmmakers to share their processes.
Atlanta based filmmaker Healy Lange, Director of the film, The Orphan Doll, will visit Charlottesville to share the personal connection she has to her film and the inspiration behind it. The primary goal of the Women in Film installment is to support women filmmakers by providing them with a platform to share their stories. The Series’ curator, Ty Cooper, shared that a large number of submissions have come in from filmmakers globally. The popularity of the event has increased since its commencement in 2019.
The founder of the Series, Ty Cooper, is an award winning writer, director and producer. His experience working with Sundance Film Festival, Virginia Film Festival, founder of the SOL Film Festival, and curation of others, has provided the opportunity to establish a high quality film event in Charlottesville, placing the city in the sights of filmmakers throughout the world.
Bringing film opportunities to Virginia is a passion of Cooper's and he is determined to enhance Charlottesville's cultural landscape by providing an enriched experience to every audience member viewing these films. Cooper believes that regularly showcasing short films and filmmaking panel discussions can provide the opportunity for enthusiasts or aspiring filmmakers to enter the local film industry. To build a local film industry, we must have active filmmakers, according to Cooper.
