Welcoming Refugees to Charlottesville

Speakers for this presentation are four local leaders in refugee resettlement in our area. Harriet Kuhr is the executive director of the International Rescue Committee in Charlottesville and Richmond. A graduate of the University of Virginia, her previous professional experience includes more than 20 years working in the field of international cultural exchange. Kari Anderson Miller founded International Neighbors in 2015. During that time, she gained valuable insight into the lives of refugee students and their families, who had been resettled to Charlottesville from 31 countries. Sue Moffett has served as director of Charlottesville Social Services since May 2021 and has more than 30 years’ experience in public social services. Sam Spencer is the Self-Sufficiency program manager with Albemarle County Department of Social Services. Sam currently oversees mandated and nonmandated employment service programs with Albemarle County. Questions from the audience will follow the presentation.
