VA House of Delegates Candidate Forum

Thursday, April 18 - 7:00 PM

On April 18, 2019 the League of Women Voters of the Charlottesville Area is holding a forum for voters to meet candidates seeking election to the 57th District seat in Virginia’s House of Delegates. David J. Toscana, who has long represented this district covering Charlottesville and parts of Albemarle County, announced his retirement in February. These individuals will be sharing their views on challenges currently facing Virginia and discussing how their leadership can help address these.

The candidates:

Kathy Galvin is currently serving her second term on the Charlottesville City Council and previously served on the Charlottesville School Board. On City Council, Kathy has championed efforts to revitalize areas in the City in order to create more jobs, provide housing for all who live and work in our community, and build healthy neighborhoods where all children can thrive. Her work in public service in Charlottesville began as the PTO President of Johnson Elementary. Kathy and her husband Michael have made their home in Charlottesville for the past 32 years. Their sons, Patrick and Kevin, attended Charlottesville public schools from grades K-12.

Sally Hudson is an economist and assistant professor of public policy at the University of Virginia. She founded FairVote Virginia in 2017 to promote the use of ranked choice voting in state and local elections here in Virginia. FairVote is a non-partisan, non-profit coalition of Republicans, Democrats, and independents from across the Commonwealth united by a shared mission to revive real, representative democracy. Sally is also an active volunteer with OneVirginia2021, which is leading the charge to end gerrymandering here in Virginia. Sally earned her Ph.D. in economics from MIT after completing her undergraduate degree in economics and mathematics at Stanford University.

The League of Women Voters is a nonpartisan organization that does not endorse or promote any candidate or party. The League was established 99 years ago to promote education and provide advocacy for civic engagement. We look forward to continuing our mission with this event.
