If you would like to become a Tree Steward and volunteer to help with our activities, we invite you to take the Training Class. With growing, planting, maintenance and care of trees, Charlottesville Area Tree Stewards (CATS) strive to improve the future of the local canopy for years to come and educate the public on why it matters.
The new program combines online and live classes and will include active field sessions involving walking on and off trail in forest settings, planting trees and removing invasive plants in local parks and woodlands. Classes begin August 3rd and end November 13th. The cost of the program is $150, including all books and materials.
Because we ask that all Tree Stewards be willing to volunteer at least 25 hours a year, this class is open only to those who live in the CATS area, which includes the city of Charlottesville and counties of Albemarle, Greene, Fluvanna, Nelson, and Luisa. We also ask that registrants be vaccinated against COVID-19. Only 32 students will be accepted for this program to ensure the best training experience.
