The Source, Sound & Soul of African-Amer

Saturday, February 17 - 7:30 PM

"In The Mix: The Source, The Sound, & The Soul of African American Music." Fluvanna County's own multi-instrumentalist, educator, and filmmaker Horace Scruggs returns with another of his popular learning and listening experiences, this time exploring elements of African-American musical expression and their context in the greater cultural narrative. Musical performances include the soul-stirring styles of gospel, blues, and smooth jazz by Scruggs and keyboardist/singer Travis Smith, bassist Wilbert Harris, and drummer Kavin Bates.

Join Scruggs the night prior for a free screening of his latest film on the big screen. Visit www.pvcc.edu/performingarts for more information.

Horace Scruggs has worked as a professional musician since 1985. His extensive education in music includes studies at Longwood University, the Shenandoah Conservatory and Berklee College of Music in Boston. Scruggs returns to PVCC to follow up on his series of past "learning and listening" concerts that traced the evolution of soul, gospel and music of the pre-civil war and civil rights eras, and more.
