Join Staunton Music Festival from April 12-14 for the third annual SpringFest! “Baroque Journeys” offers a three-day celebration of Baroque music, spanning Europe from West to East and culminating with Handel's sublime Italian oratorio La Resurrezione. All concerts feature acclaimed period-instrument performers. Programs include music for voices, orchestra, and chamber ensembles and feature historical keyboards.
Day 3 features three events. At 10:30 am audiences gather at the famed Blackfriars Playhouse for a one-hour concert of English music, featuring works by Dowland, Handel, Purcell, and others. "London Playhouse" tickets are $16-$22. Half price for military or college.
Then before the SpringFest finale, interested (and hungry) listeners can enjoy a fully-catered lunch and extended lecture by Dr. Jon Gibson, music historian at JMU, talking about Handel's sublime "Resurrection" oratorio. Event begins at 1:00 pm. Tickets are $40 and include all food/drink plus the lecture.
Handel's Italian oratorio is the single work programmed for the Sunday afternoon finale. Carsten Schmidt conducts vocal soloists and period-instrument performers in a complete performance of "La Resurrezione" at 4:00 pm. Reserved seating from $22-$32. Half price for military or college.
All events are completely free to youth aged 18 and under.
