At 2 p.m. Saturday, March 25, the Piedmont Master Gardeners and Virginia Cooperative Extension will offer “Spring Cleanup in the Perennial Garden,” a free, outdoor Garden Basics workshop at PMG’s demonstration garden at Sentara Martha Jefferson Hospital. Participants will meet at the Outpatient Care Center parking area, 595 Martha Jefferson Drive. To reserve a place in the class, register at https://piedmontmastergardeners.org/events/. Registration closes at 5 p.m. March 24. The program will explain the importance of cleaning up the garden in the spring rather than the fall to protect beneficial insects and provide food for birds. Participants will also learn about the native plants in the demonstration garden and, in a hands-on activity, will be able to take home a native plant for their own gardens. The workshop will be cancelled in the event of inclement weather.
