Plight of Afghan Women

Tuesday, January 25 - 7:00 PM

Charlottesville NOW's chapter meeting in January will focus on the plight of Afghan women. Along with speakers from local and national organizations sharing their insights, relief work and calls to action, we're fortunate to have the former Minister of Education of Afghanistan, who was there until the government fell to the Taliban.

  • Rangina Hamidi, Professor, Arizona State University (former Minister of Education of Afghanistan)
  • Ellie Smeal, President, Feminist Majority Foundation
  • Harriet Kuhr, Director, International Rescue Committee, Charlottesville
  • Afghan Student Association, University of Virginia

PLUS...We begin the meeting with updates from Virginia NOW. Legislative VP Marj Signer will report on the status of NOW's priorities in the 2022 General Assembly, including tactics for passing new legislation and for holding the line on laws in danger of being rolled back. President Connie Cordovilla will report on the upcoming April election of new leaders for Virginia NOW (nominations being accepted now).
