The Westminster Organ Concert Series continues its 42nd season on Friday, February 3, at 7:30 pm, with an organ recital Jonathan Dimmock featuring music of Johann Sebastian Bach. Mr. Dimmock is Organist of the San Francisco Symphony, Principal Organist of the Legion of Honor Museum, and Music Director at the St. Ignatius church in San Francisco. He has recorded over fifty CDs and performed on six continents. His program presents works from Bach’s Clavierübung Part III, Bach’s first published collection of music for organ, including some of his most accomplished organ settings of Lutheran chorales and the magnificent Prelude and Fugue in E-flat major. Admission is free and a reception will follow the concert.
Westminster Presbyterian Church is located at 400 Rugby Road in Charlottesville. Ample parking is available behind the church, and the sanctuary is wheelchair-accessible.
The Westminster Organ Concert Series was begun in 1980 to share the newly installed all-mechanical baroque-style pipe organ with the community. The organ, built by Taylor & Boody Organbuilders of Staunton, Virginia, has 18 stops and over 1100 pipes.
