The Oratorio Society of Virginia presents John Rutter's Requiem as well as music from the British royal weddings throughout the years. Members of the community have the opportunity to join the chorus in singing the Requiem, and take part in a morning choral masterclass with Music Director Michael Slon, which is required for singers who wish to perform the Requiem with the Oratorio chorus at the afternoon concert for the public.
About Rutter's Requiem: Poignant rather than morose, the Requiem is deeply moving and creates a fusion of modern style and romantic melody. It is optimistic in its message of hope and comfort, and is a piece renowned for its beauty and grace.
In keeping with the theme, the audience is cordially invited to attend an Afternoon Tea reception with the chorus immediately after the concert.
Participating in or attending this concert is also an opportunity to help others in our community. Donations for HOSPICE OF THE PIEDMONT are welcomed and will be accepted at the ticket table before and after our concert.
