Narrative Arc in Novels

Tuesday, February 15 - 6:30 PM

Have you ever been working on your novel and found yourself wondering: what would happen next? As writers sometimes the more important question is why—why should that happen next?

This 8-week class will look at narrative arc with the goal of helping participants know what should happen where in their work-in-progress (WIP). We’ll complete activities to identify key narrative elements in your WIP and write a synopsis (I know—the dreaded synopsis) of the entire narrative arc. Participants will have at least two workshops in which we’ll critique first chapters and either a climax or middle chapter.

To be successful as participants, writers will want to have completed a novel draft or be at least halfway through a draft.
