In 1869 ten explorers set off in four boats to explore and chart the rivers that ran through what would be known as the Grand Canyon. MEN ON BOATS is the true(ish) history of this expedition, when the one-armed Civil War captain John Wesley Powell led a crew of oddball volunteers and braved almost 1,000 miles of rapids, rocks, drops, and mile high canyon walls.

This contemporary retelling of this ripping yarn is replete with comedy, and shows us that people, places, and things aren’t always what they seem.

According to the playwright, the characters in MEN ON BOATS were historically cisgender white males, but the cast should be comprised entirely of people who are not. In short, the characters will be played by racially diverse, female-identifying, trans-identifying, gender-fluid, and/or non-gender-conforming actors.

MEN ON BOATS is our Mentor/Apprentice Show!
