Making Sense of Grief Through Story

Saturday, September 7 - 3:00 PM

Following a tried-and-true formula (“Once upon a time . . . . Then, one day . . .”), participants will learn how to identify, begin, and structure an autobiographical story, whether fiction or non-fiction, about a difficult moment in their lives. Participants will finish the workshop with the plots of at least three new autobiographical works, a two-page beginning of a new essay, story, novel, or memoir, or a revised beginning of their work-in-progress.

Instructor David Hicks is the author of the novel White Plains (Bower House), a finalist for the Colorado Book Award and Westword’s #1 book by Colorado authors in 2018; a children’s book, The Magic Ticket (Fulcrum, 2024), and a novel,American Bistro, forthcoming (spring 2025) by Vine Leaves Press. An award-winning professor and recipient of two Fulbright scholarships (Czech Republic), David is the founding director of the Regis University MFA in Creative Writing and current director of the nationally ranked Maslow Family Graduate Program in Creative Writing at Wilkes University in Wilkes-Barre, PA. https://david-hicks.com
