Learn to play Calypso, Cha Cha Cha, Rock, Swing and polyrhythms from West Africa in a hand drumming course designed for all. No prior drumming experience is necessary or required. The course will include hand drumming technique, and fundamental patterns associated with dance rhythms from the United States, the Caribbean, Brazil and West Africa. The history, geography and artists associated with the rhythms presented in the course will be discussed as well as listening to and playing along with selected songs. Each class starts with a short practice of mindfulness using the body scan to relax and focus in on the present moment.
Drums will be available for use during the sessions.
