Kiwanis Christmas Tree Sales Benefit Local Youth

For the 88th year, the Kiwanis Club of Charlottesville is selling locally grown Christmas trees and hand-decorated wreaths to earn money to support club service projects mainly benefiting children and youth. All proceeds go to four Key Clubs at local high schools, a CKI Club at the University of Virginia, the Jefferson Area Aktion Club, a Central Little League team, and an annual Holiday Party for Persons with Disabilities at WorkSource Enterprises.  Sales at Seminole Square begin on Black Friday, November 27, from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m.

Hours of Operation at Seminole Square Shopping Center, from November 27  until the trees are gone, are as follows: Saturdays and Sundays from 10 a.m. until 7 p.m. and Mondays through Fridays from 4:00 p.m. until 7 p.m.  Prices range from $35 to $110 depending on tree size (6’ to 10’) and all wreaths are $25.  We follow CDC guidelines for safety: masks, hand sanitizer, temperature checks for workers.

"Kiwanis is selling fresh cut DOUGLAS FIRS   from nearby Maysville, West Virginia, and DOUGLAS FIR WREATHS assembled and beautifully decorated by local Kiwanians, Key Clubbers, and CKI members," said Teresa Tyler, Kiwanis tree sales committee chair. The lot is located once again this year at Seminole Square Shopping Center in front of Fergusons and Marshalls—look for the Capitol Shed.  "Three generations of Charlottesvillians have bought their Christmas trees from Kiwanis. They tell us that our trees and wreaths are consistently the best buy in town for freshness and beauty," said Jackie Waymire, current Kiwanis president.  Kiwanis has been selling Christmas trees at the Seminole Square location for more than two decades.

All money raised at Kiwanis events is returned to the community in club service projects mainly benefiting children and youth. Last year more than 62 Kiwanians volunteered for over 1,500 service hours and raised more than $18,000 which was distributed to a variety of local agencies. In addition, more than 400 elementary school, high school, and college youth are learning and practicing the highest values of service and leadership essential for the improvement of this community through Kiwanis-sponsored service leadership programs. The Kiwanis Club of Charlottesville has been "serving the children of the world" for over  98 years. For more information see: http://kiwaniscville.org or call Jim Hart, 434-971-2094.
