The movie follows a young, black teenager, who lives in the New York City projects. With grace and wit, she navigates a very difficult world of challenging political and social issues. The film made an impact when it came out, winning the Special Jury Prize at the Sundance Film Festival, and twenty years later, its message is just as powerful and just as relevant.
Joining us for a Q&A after the screening will be UVA professors and filmmakers, Kevin Everson and Claudrena Harold.
