Hide tanning is an amazing process that gives you material with which to make clothes, hats, bags, gloves, and a wide variety of other products while also honoring an animal’s life, giving them continued use and meaning after their passing. Over this weekend, you will learn the basics of fur-on hide tanning using roadkill squirrels, rabbits, or other small game animals and go home with a finished piece of soft, supple fur.
In this class, you will learn:
The transformation the skin will undergo during this process will amaze you. While you will only be learning with small animals, the steps you will learn in this class can be applied with little to no change to most any other mammal (okay, maybe not armadillos, but…). If you’re interested in what it takes to make a hide soft and pliable, or simply interested in learning more about the animals around you, this class is an amazing opportunity.
