FLOW: The Rivanna River Arts Festival

FLOW is a celebration of art, music, song and dance inspired by the Rivanna River. The festival will highlight the Arts of the Rivanna River Renaissance and FLOWtilla: The Spontaneous Decorated Boat Parade.

 

A Day of FLOWing begins at 10:00 on the city side of the river with The Rivanna Tree Walkhosted by Robin Hanes (sign up for this event at Rivannatreewalk@gmail.com). Gather at RiverSide Park to learn to identify the natural and invasive species along the river.

Artists include Barry Bless & Twyla Jane - wandering gypsy-style cabaret, Bolanle Adeboye & Chicho Lorenzo - Water Drumming, Chapman Grove Gospel Singers, Susan Christmas & Eric Demmit - World Music, John d'Earth, Will Evans - Jazz, Dan Goldberg and Friends - String Band, David McCormick - Baroque Violin, Kate Tamakin - Harp, Gina Sobel - Flute/Sax, Butch Taylor, Robert Jospe - Jazz, Whit Whitten - African Drumming, Larkspur - Folk, Craig Green and The Love Army Ukulele Brigade, Matty Metcalfe - Traditional & Cajun, and Estella Knott & Music Together - Mexilachian with The Lua Project.

FLOW Site Specific Installation Artists   – starts at 11:00, continues throughout the day
Bill Atwood, Renee Balfour, Travis Childers, Nina Burke & Andy Foster, Ann Friend Clark, Deborah Davis, Megan Hillary, Veronica Jackson, Jum Jirapan, Gary Michael Keyes, Alan Box Levine, Kelly Lonergan, Dan Mahon, Ed Miller, Beatrix Ost, Alexandria Searls, Robert Schultz, Michelle Gagliano, Richard Weaver, and the McGuffey Art Center’s Rivertrees hands-on workshop with Fenella Belle.

FLOW Plein Aire  Painters  along the Banks  – starts at 11:00ends at 3:00
Open to all plein aire painters. Past participants include Morganne Ashlie, Ray Berry, Gwen Cates, Richard Crozier, Gray Dodson, Margaret Embree, Giselle Gautreau, Elizabeth Geiger, Robin Hoffman, Duane Keiser, Sarah Blech, Linda Staiger, Nancy Wallace, Meg West, Laura Edwards Wooten. FLOWtilla Decorated Boat Parade – Launches from the Darden Towe Boat Ramp at 3:30
Concludes at the Rivanna River Company.  Awards for the best designs!
All are invited to bring a decorated seaworthy watercraft and participate for cash prizes!
