Emily Hunter - Flute Recital

Friday, April 26 - 8:00 PM

The UVA Music Department presents a Distinguished Major Flute Recital by Emily Hunter on Friday, April 26th at 8:00 PM in Old Cabell Hall. Her recital will be broadcasted and the link to the recital and the program will be available on this page on the day of the recital.

She will perform an all-French composed program from a variety of time periods and styles. The recital program will feature Sonatine by Henri Dutilleux, Les Folies d’Espagne by Marin Marais, Piece Romantique by Philippe Gaubert, Concertino by Cécile Chaminade, Syrinx by Claude Debussy, and Le Merle Noir by Oliver Messian.

Emily is a fourth-year student pursuing a B.S. in Cognitive Science with a concentration in Neuroscience and a B.A. in Music on a pre-PA track. She has been playing flute since she was 10 years old and currently studies with Professor Kelly Sulick. In high school she was a National Symphony Orchestra (NSO) Youth Fellow, where she was mentored by NSO members and performed on the Kennedy Center's Millennium Stage with a chamber ensemble. As a member of American Youth Philharmonic Orchestra (AYPO) she had the opportunity to perform as principal flute and was a member of a chamber quintet. Emily has placed in several music competitions and attended the Governor's School for Visual and Performing Arts at age 16. Emily studied classical music in Vienna, Austria with Furugh Karimi last spring.

At UVA, she has been involved in the Charlottesville Symphony Orchestra and Miller Arts Scholars, serving on the executive board. She has received the 3rd and 4th year Arts Awards, along with three mini-grants from Miller Arts Scholars. These projects have included funding for seeing the New York Philharmonic, Vienna Philharmonic, and Berlin Philharmonic Orchestras perform, purchasing a new flute head joint for a different tone color in this recital, and funding for private lessons.

After graduation, Emily plans on attending PA school to pursue medicine and will continue to play the flute.
