Author Ilyse Hogue, "The Lie That Binds"

Tuesday, October 13 - 7:00 PM

Charlottesville NOW's October meeting will feature Ilyse Hogue, President of NARAL Pro-Choice America and author of “The Lie That Binds.” Her new book lays out how the Radical Right uses abortion to advance a regressive policy agenda, revealing that as fewer followers shared their prejudices on other social justice issues, conservative political operatives intentionally targeted abortion to be the rallying cry to maintain control in a changing world.

Stacey Abrams calls the best seller a “brilliant, systematic takedown of the extremist, hypocritical forces that seek to control women’s bodies [and] a clarion call for renewed American activism to protect a woman’s right to determine her own health care, including her right to abortion, at a time when those rights are more at risk than at any point in the last 45 years.”

Hogue is a lifelong activist and organizer around social justice issues including reproductive freedom, climate change, and media reform. We’re delighted to have her join us to discuss her book and inspire our work just weeks ahead of what may be the most important election of our lifetimes.
