Advanced Screening of POLDARK

Friday, September 27 - 8:00 PM

Join VPM PBS and The Paramount Theater on Friday, September 27 for a free advanced screening of the premiere of the 5th and final season of the popular Masterpiece drama, POLDARK, featuring Aidan Turner and Eleanor Tomlinson.  The event will include photo ops with Ross Poldark (the standee)! Admission is free, but registration is required.

Almost 40 years ago, Ross Poldark galloped across the TV screens of millions of PBS viewers, vexing villains and winning female hearts in one of MASTERPIECE’s earliest hit series. For one last season, the gallant hero rides again.

The event will begin with opening remarks by Professor Trevor Burnard, incoming Wilberforce Professor of Slavery and Emancipation and Director of the Wilberforce Institute at the University of Hull in the UK. Professor Burnard will present a brief history of early nineteenth-century Britain, its empire, and the town of Cornwall, which together comprise the backdrop for the final season of POLDARK.

Professor Burnard currently teaches history at the University of Melbourne in Australia, serves as editor in chief of the Oxford Online Bibliography in Atlantic History and is a current fellow at the International Center for Jefferson Studies at Monticello.
