Active Mobility Summit

Friday, February 26 - 10:00 AM

Would you like to see Charlottesville and Albemarle be safer and better connected, with more access to the outdoors and less pollution? Are you ready to work on it in a coordinated way?

At this free half-day workshop, representatives from organizations, local businesses, agencies and passionate individuals who share a mission to promote walking, biking, running, everyday access nature and active lifestyles will gather to identify areas of collaboration and to create a joint work plan. They will form workgroups and make commitments to accomplish specific progress within the next year.

The summit will be broken up into two sessions: Morning: 10:00 - 11:30 AM. Afternoon: 1:00 - 3:00 PM.

Example topics of discussion:

  • Advocating for better funding for trails, sidewalks, and bike lanes
  • Bike/walk-friendly business program
  • Diversifying group membership / participation
  • Making it easier to find (and find one’s way around on) local trails
  • Open Streets project or temporary sidewalk/bike lane projects
  • Securing a new location for Community Bikes
  • Working together to build and maintain trails

Dr Selena Cozart will facilitate this first annual meeting, which will include morning and afternoon sessions, with a midday break in between. It is free and anyone can attend as long as they bring a willingness to work, along with great ideas. Organizations are encouraged to send more than one representative. There are likely to be multiple workgroups that align with organizations’ missions.

This event is made possible by an Enriching Communities Grant from the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation.
