Second Street Gallery is pleased to present "Summer's Cauldron", a solo exhibition featuring new paintings by Aaron Eichorst, on view in SSG's Dové Gallery from June 3 - July 22, 2022. The exhibition opens on First Friday, June 3, 2022 from 5:30-7:30PM. The exhibiting artist will be present in the gallery during this opening evening to chat with attendees.
Aaron Eichorst’s "Summer’s Cauldron" reveals the surprising results of his inimitable aesthetic. Capturing extraordinary creatures, flourishing flora, and engaging figures who inhabit a vivid world, Eichorst masterfully reflects on the experiences of basking in nature's most fiery season while praising its innate, captivating charm.
The design of these works are inspired by the ornamental style known as Grotesque—a scheme of interlaced garlands and fantastic human/animal figures which were intended to ward off evils. Unlike their ancient counterparts, each of Eichorst’s pieces features a central, hand-painted depiction of a person or animal that meets the gaze of the viewer, peering through a portal. The viewer is thus coaxed into the mind’s eye of the artist, creating a dynamic mirror.
This exhibition is a Call for Submissions Season 48 pick and is generously sponsored by the Galdencio-Pontillo Family, The Andy Warhol Foundation for the Visual Arts, and an Enriching Communities grant from the Charlottesville Area Community Foundation (CACF).
