The Liberty Ride is a guided horseback trail ride, and is a fundraiser for the Orange County Parks & Recreation Foundation, a 501(c)3 Organization whose mission is to help support the future of Orange County Parks & Recreation. The ride is organized by Orange County Parks & Recreation and Oakland Heights Farm, hosted by James Madison's Montpelier, and supported by the Virginia Horse Industry Board and Virginia Horse Council.
The Liberty Ride, named for James Madison’s favorite horse, will begin this year on the historic property of James Madison’s Montpelier, in conjunction with their Constitution Day festivities. The ride is under 10 miles in length (depending on weather and trail conditions), and will include pasture land, wooded trails, and gravel roads. This event is a unique opportunity to ride on some of the same ground our founding fathers would have trod. Pre-registration is required. The registration fee is $40 per horse and rider pair, but increases to $60 after 9/10/21 (or postmark deadline of 9/8/21). Riders must provide their own horse and equipment. Each registration includes one lunch, which will be served following the ride. Contact Orange County Parks & Recreation for details at (540) 672-5435.
