Picture Book Boot Camp

Saturday, April 18 - 1:00 PM

What makes picture books so magical? The alchemy of text and art creates a unique medium for a story, turning it into something more than just the combination of words and pictures. It might seem like a mystery, but writing picture books is far from impossible — it just takes a special set of skills and a peek behind the curtain.

Hannah Barnaby — a former children’s book editor and current author of picture books and novels — can show you how to get from idea to manuscript to book. This half-day workshop will cover the nuts and bolts of picture books from several angles: the relationship between text and illustrations, fresh takes on classic subjects, and the publishing process from manuscript to finished book. Whether you’ve got a work in progress, or you’ve always wanted to write picture books but didn’t know where to start, Picture Book Boot Camp is the launchpad you need.
