Description: The Best of Both Worlds Dance and Step Competition Returns to Charlottesville “$1,000 in Cash and Prizes will be Up For Grabs as the Best of Virginia Takes the Stage” Lifeview Films Presents the 4th Annual Best of Both Worlds Dance and Step Competition on Saturday, April 23rd at the Martin Luther King Jr Performing Arts Center located on the campus of Charlottesville High School. With $1,000 in cash up for grabs and some of Central Virginia's best step and dance teams, this event is expected to be no less than an extravaganza. Teams from Richmond, Charlottesville, Buckingham, Lynchburg, Liberty University and others will face off for the cash and trophy. Ty Cooper, the event organizer, had created the concept of the competition in 2007. “The Best of Both Worlds Dance and Step Competition serves as an outlet for talented individuals to showcase their skills in an upscale battle while attaining a sense of empowerment” says Cooper. Like MTV's America's Best Dance Crew, the stakes will be high and many ambitious young groups are poised to wrestle the crown from the reigning two-year champions, the Hermitage High School Steppers With Pride and one-time champion Liberty University. $1000 in cash and prizes along with the all-important “bragging rights” are up for grabs as this ultra-popular competition, depicted in Hollywood blockbusters such as Stomp The Yard and You Got Served, lays siege to Charlottesville. City Councilor, Holly Edwards will be honored for her years of service as a councilor and advocate for citizen rights in Charlottesville at the competition. The event will also present an opportunity for the youth of Charlottesville to voice their concerns about racial tension they have experienced and the possible solutions to overcome these circumstances. This opportunity of expression will occur in between each performance in an open forum format serving as an extension of the Dialogue of Race. African American arts and culture has contributed tremendously to the rich texture of our nation. In the midst of our city's efforts to connect the community with a Dialogue on Race , The Best of Both Worlds Dance and Step Competition functions as another communal event bringing together our diverse citizenry to celebrate unity and community cohesiveness. The event's title represents the show's collaborative fusion of showmanship and the choreography of dance and the culturally rich tradition of stepping. Step is an eclectic art form in which the performers' entire body is used as a percussive instrument via stomping, spoken word, and clapping. All ages are invited to this family event to witness the art and drama as it unfolds on Saturday, April 23, 2011. Tickets are on sale at EcoDry Cleaners, Plan 9 (Seminole Trail - ph. # 434.974.9999), and Payne's Beauty Salon. Doors open at 7:00 p.m and show time begins at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are priced at $12 in advance and $15 at the door. Purchase early and save.
