Iron Rungs Rock Climbing

Location:

Community-Wide

Event Type(s): Clubs, Sports & Recreation
Organization: Outdoor Adventure Social Club
Description:
Adventure title:  "Via Ferrata"

Spectacular views of forests below and mountains beyond, while climbing on iron rungs, chains and more (all along the way connected to a steel safety cable) to traverse two rock cliffs and a 200-foot suspension bridge in between . . . what a beautiful blast!

Quote from a prior trip:

"Climbing the Via Ferrata ... was one of the most amazing things I've ever done in my life. I'm sure the other 23 people who all made it to the top would agree! And the views were amazing, it just kept getting better and better! What an incredible experience!"

Here is a rare chance to enjoy the views of rock climbing without needing climbing expertise.  Translated (from Italian), "via ferrata" means ‘Iron Road.’  This isn't exactly rock climbing; first-time and experienced climbers alike will have a blast.  Check out these and the surrounding pictures to get an idea of how much fun this is:

We'll traverse two rock fins, and cross a 200' suspension bridge in the middle to get from one to the other. Then around the top of the via, hike a short way to the overlooks on the West (left) fin, and then hike a short way to the summit (top of the East/right fin) and take in the astounding views.

Cost
OASC does not make any money on any of its activities. Many activities are free; for those in which the club Leader incurs an expense to run the event, there is a fee to cover that expense (for example, a hike in the mountains typically costs $2 to $5 so the Leader has gas money to give to the carpool drivers). The participation fee for this particular adventure is $53; it includes:  entrance to the Via Ferrata (including the day pass, helmet, lanyard, harness, instruction, etc.), a large first aid kit, walkie-talkies, carpool gas money, and a first-aid and CPR-certified guide at your service.  OASC Membership is required to attend, as we continue to build a community of outdoorsy people with similar interests and values. If you are not one of our ~200+ Members (ages 18 to 70s) but would like to join in on this and other fun (we have ~2 to 3 adventures every day – weekday eves, and weekends), please click "Join" at www.outdoorsocial.com and/or call 434-760-HIKE (4453) for more information. Thanks!

Additional helpful information about this particular adventure (such as directions, what to bring, etc.) is available, it was omitted here for the sake of brevity.  Timing and other details are subject to change.  Please contact us for more info.  Thanks!
