JABA’s health insurance counseling program, VICAP, has announced two new sessions for its popular FREE workshopGetting Started in Medicare.
VICAP (the Virginia Insurance and Counseling Program) is offering the workshop from 2:00 to 3:30PM, on Tuesday, January 17, and February 21.
Both sessions will all be held at the Northside Branch of the Jefferson-Madison Regional Library, in the Albemarle Square Shopping Center, Route 29 North Charlottesville, VA 22901.
The workshop is designed for people who are about to retire, those who are continuing to work past age 65, and those who will be getting Medicare based on disability. Attendees will learn when to enroll in Medicare Part B and Part D, how to shop for Medicare supplement insurance and Medicare Advantage plans, and how Medicare relates to retiree health plans and COBRA. Family members are welcome to attend, as well.
A primary purpose of the workshop is to alert consumers to critical enrollment periods for Medicare programs. Missing these deadlines can result in delays in obtaining Medicare benefits, unnecessary out-of-pocket expenses, and higher insurance premiums. The workshop will also provide information about the new preventive care benefits created by the 2010 Affordable Care Act.
