Women, it is time to rally for the New York Diva of Comedy, Gina Brillon. As seen on Comedy Central, VH1, MTV, and other national programs, Gina is headlining the second show of the Charlottesville National Stand-Up Comedy Series on Friday, September 17, 2010. The series was launched on August 21st with Funnyman Skiba and the audience could not get enough of him. The bar was set high and Gina Brillon is guaranteed to carry the torch. Gina is known for telling you how it is and makes fun of every aspect of her life as well as yours. She is extraordinarily quick which is a trait every stand-up comedian should and must have to survive working the club circuit in New York City. Although, she packs a heavy punch, Gina is a professional who can work any audience; Family Friendly or Comedy Club and still make you laugh.
With the new comedy scene in town, Charlottesville may become a hub for a different genre of entertainment? Once a month for the next year, Lifeview Films will bring a national stand-up comedian to Charlottesville. It is an effort to promote diversity in the City of Charlottesville in regards to ethnicity and event programming. There will be opportunities for local/regional comedians to open for the series but only nationally recognized comedians will headline. Each show will feature an opening act to provide opportunity for the local comic to learn from these national comedians performing in their backyard. Opening for Gina on Friday, September 17th, Bill Metzger will take the stage.
Ty Cooper, the event organizer, is determined to bring all communities of Charlottesville together for laughter with a diverse and multicultural line-up of comedians. Cooper founded the Laugh Out Loud Comedy Tour in 2002 and is responsible for bringing comedians Jay Phillips, Eric Frost, Gina Brillon, Cocoa Brown, Alycia Cooper, Skiba and others to Charlottesville. The comedy series is divided into three legs. The first leg is shared among host venues Live Arts and Play On! The Theatre at Ix: Live Arts Saturday, Aug. 21 featuring SKIBA and Friday, Sept. 17 featuring GINA BRILLON. Play On! The Theatre at Ix Saturday, Oct. 9 featuring LEIGHANN LORD and Saturday, Nov. 13 featuring DAVID FOSTER. C'ville Weekly Newspaper has joined Cooper in his efforts of promoting diversity in the city as a media sponsor of the comedy series.
Do not miss comedienne, Gina Brillon on Friday, September 17th at Live Arts (123 Water Street). Doors open at 7:30p and Showtime at 8:00p. Tickets are only $15 and always available online at www.cvillestandupcomedy.com. Play On! The Theatre at Ix (983 Second Street South East at the Ix Building next to Newsplex) - Saturday, October 9 & Saturday, November 13
The line up of comedians will be posted shortly, so stay tuned. Additional dates will be published in September.
Doors open at 7:30 p.m. and show time starts at 8 p.m. for each show. Beer, wine, and the usual concessions will be available. That may add to the LAUGHTER.
