Description:

Broomball is a *total blast.* It is kind of like ice hockey, except on sneakers instead of skates! It’s hilarious slip-slidin’ fun, a great adrenaline rush, and a choose-your-own cardiovascular workout adventure – you can (try to) run all around the ice playing extremely actively, or you can hang out and defend the goal or cherry-pick and wait for the ball to come to you to score a goal ... and everything in between. After the rink undergoes an ice skating session, when the ice is roughed-up and hence offering a little traction, we go out there in our sneakers or hiking shoes and play a game kind of like ice hockey, except with a ball roughly the size of a grapefruit, and sticks that are a cross between a broom and a hockey stick. We team up 8 to 13 per side, and try to get the ball into the hockey goals. Helmets are provided for safety.
No skills or experience necessary!
Our plan is for the first 20-minute period to be one ball in play, and the second period to be two balls in play (so long as the IcePark supplies as they have done in the past.) Time-permitting, there will be a bonus few minutes of play at the end with more than two balls in play! Craziness! :) After the game we'll celebrate at a bar or nearby apartment party.

Cost
: OASC does not make any money on any of its activities. Many activities are free; for those in which the club Leader incurs an expense to run the event, there is a fee to cover that expense (for example, a hike in the mountains typically costs $2 to $5 so the Leader has gas money to give to the carpool drivers). The participation fee for this particular adventure is averages $12.50 (depending on how many people sign up) to cover nothing but the cost of ice rink rental with an OASC-Member exclusive savings of 17%. OASC will provide a first aid kit, and first-aid and CPR-certified guide at your service. OASC Membership is required to attend, as we continue to build a community of outdoorsy people with similar interests and values. If you are not one of our ~200+ Members (ages 18 to 70s) but would like to join in on this and other fun (we have ~2 to 3 adventures every day – weekday eves, and weekends), please click "Join" at www.outdoorsocial.com and/or call 434-760-HIKE (4453) for more information. Thanks!
Additional helpful information about this particular adventure (such as directions, what to bring, etc.) is available, it was omitted here for the sake of brevity. Timing and other details are subject to change. Please contact us for more info. Thanks!
