Backpacking Fall Colors in WV

Location:

Community-Wide

Event Type(s): Clubs, Sports & Recreation
Organization: Outdoor Adventure Social Club
Description:
Adventure title:  "Peak Fall Colors Choose-Your-Own-Pace Backpacking In WV"
Departure:  8:30am Saturday 9/25
Return:  ~6pm Sunday 9/26

Outdoor Adventure Social Club cordially invites you to join us in a beautiful part of West Virginia, at an elevation and time when fall colors historically have been at their peak.

When we hiked the first half of this trail earlier this year, we remarked how perfect of a setting it would be for hiking amidst a brilliant display of autumn colors, given the types and size of trees, and width of trail.  We can't wait to see what we've dreamt.

HIGHLIGHTS:
> 360 views from the highest peak in West Virginia
> Autumn Colors Peak display timing (historically); forest type ideal for eye-popping display
> Some rare forest types typical only in climates much further north
> Wide trails with good, even footing (exception ~1 to 2 miles, and if it has rained a lot)
> Campfire circles complete with stone chairs like La-Z-Boy recliner seats
> Choose-your-own pace

Cost
OASC does not make any money on any of its activities. Many activities are free; for those in which the club Leader incurs an expense to run the event, there is a fee to cover that expense (for example, a hike in the mountains typically costs $2 to $5 so the Leader has gas money to give to the carpool drivers). The participation fee for this particular adventure is $18; it includes:  carpool gas money, hot water for Saturday dinner, dessert (s’mores!), Sunday breakfast, a stove, fuel, pot, water filter, 6-liter water bladder for easy use at the campsite, rope for hanging food at night, a large first aid kit, a small shovel, a map and compass, walkie-talkies, two experienced first-aid & CPR-certified guides at your service, and if you need: backpack, backpack rain cover, tent, sleeping bag, and sleeping pad.  OASC Membership is required to attend, as we continue to build a community of outdoorsy people with similar interests and values. If you are not one of our ~200+ Members (ages 18 to 70s) but would like to join in on this and other fun (we have ~2 to 3 adventures every day – weekday eves, and weekends), please click "Join" at www.outdoorsocial.com and/or call 434-760-HIKE (4453) for more information. Thanks!

Additional helpful information about this particular adventure (such as directions, what to bring, etc.) is available, it was omitted here for the sake of brevity.  Timing and other details are subject to change.  Please contact us for more info.  Thanks!
