A Civil War Weekend

Event Type(s): History, Special Events / Holiday
Organization: Waynesboro At War
Description: Waynesboro was a town of 457 in 1860, an unlikely place at the feet of the Blue Ridge Mountains for war to come. However, in September, 1864, and March, 1865, Union General Sheridan brought the Civil War to town.

Join us in commemorating these historic events and the men who made them happen, September 16-17, 2017.

Military reenactors will demonstrate period drill and recreate army life in the field.
Learn how infantrymen fired three rounds per minute.
Experience the ground pounding thunder of a cavalry charge.
Witness firsthand the explosive power of the artillery.

Civil War themed and 21st Century vendors will offer their wares and foodstuffs in "Sutler Square," while Generals and politicians from the past regale you with their tales.

Learn about Civil War era base ball and town ball, and join in the game at 4pm on Saturday.

Come early on Sunday to participate in our 19th Century style church service in the camps at 9:30 am.

Start or end your excursion with a visit to our 'mobile museum' tent or by meeting the authors of books about the war.

Camps open at 9 am and battles will be fought at 2 pm each day.

Admission Fee: $5 per day ages over 11, or $8 for a Two-Day Pass.
Passes can be bought at the gate or online via our website shown below.
